THROWING DEVELOPMENT

High Performance has throwing related programs for both pitchers and position players designed to improve arm fitness, increase velocity, and decrease the risk of injury. Using Driveline and Rapsodo certified throwing instructors, High Performance trains its pitchers and throwers to move better, feel better, and play better.

“Fitness can be described with a variety of words - strength, endurance, or conditioning. When a pitcher has poor arm-related fitness, it generally means his tissue has a low injury threshold. This can be due to insufficient muscular strength, low muscular endurance, poor soft tissue quality, etc.”

To mitigate the risk of injury while improving throwers in all aspects, High Performance uses a range of tools such as:
  • Driveline Throwing Protocols and Guidelines
  • J-Bands and Effective Warm Up
  • Plyocare Drills
  • Driveline Long Toss Programs
  • Weighted Ball Drills and Throws
  • Stalker Pro Feedback (Radar Gun)
  • Med Ball Drills
  • Pitch AI Biomechanical Analysis
  • Active Recovery

Program Schedule Breakdown
Aug. 2022: Initial Assessments

Oct. 3rd-Nov. 6th (5 Weeks): Movement Patterns, Mobility Work
Nov. 7th-Dec. 4th (4 Weeks): ON RAMP Throwing Program
Dec. 5th-Jan. 22nd (7 Weeks): Velocity Building Phase, Long Toss
Jan. 23rd-March 12th (7 Weeks): Bullpens, Pitch Design/Position Specific Work

Maximum Velocity Testing (aka Pulldowns)

Pulldowns, while not for everyone, allow athletes looking to train for higher throwing velocity to move at high speeds and unleash their potential. As seen here, a high school athlete moves with an aggressive shuffle to gain as much momentum as possible, resulting in a near 97 mph pull down.
Group Velocity Training

At High Performance, we recognize the benefits of working with others a constructively competitive environment. Group velocity training encourages athletes to work together and share ideas while motivating and pushing one another.

Pitch AI Biomechanical Analysis

Pitch AI allows for our coaches to break down and understand the very specific movements which allow an athlete to throw efficiently (at high velocity in a manner which can be sustained). This biomechanical technology highlights the speeds, lengths, and angles of various body parts throughout the delivery.
